Power to Change

This is to encourages personal computer users around the world to make behavioral changes in support of the environment. This behavior is about leaving the computers alone in standby mode when not in use. This is to suggest that Instead of using an screen saver in desktop for long time, it would be conservative if just to save work and shut down the unit instead?

This research is about making a campaign to all laptop and PC owners to make such a habit of shutting down their computers than standby specially the PC's in internet cafes.

In part of this research is about a creating software like desktop widget that automatically shutdown computer units that is unattended for long time.

For this, if all people in the world will have a behavior like this, there will be lots of energy to be conserve.

Are you going to develop a software for this?

I think I have already read about such software but if you can put additional features to it, then your research will be very good. Also, after implementing your software, I think you are going to have to perform statistical analysis to verify that the software really has a significant effect.

Well, based on our advocacy in Green Campus Computing last year, screensaver really has a great factor using it for not in dealing with our environment. Good luck on your study..

A Software like this already exist. Neo laptops can use Watchdogs wherein it will automatically shutdown or put a computer in standby mode when ever the webcam cannot detect a person in front of the screen for a certain period of time. Also windows power management can put a computer on standby or turn-off the monitor and hard disk when ever it is idle for a certain period of time. Are you going to make a software that will exceed the capabilities of both Watchdog and Windows Power Management? If you are, what are the other features of your software aside from forcing a computer to shutdown when it is idle for a long period of time.

The disadvantage of watchdog and windows power management is that it will not save what you are doing nor will it save the current state of your desktop.

It would be nice if you could create a power management software that will save the current state of your desktop and will automatically save the work you are doing.

but it will be nice if you can just simply improve the existing software since there are already softwares that puts a computer in a standby mode..

Basically, this research is about convincing people using electronic machine such as laptop and computer to minimize or disable the use of standby mode since it's still consuming energy. This is a call to people specially the individuals who are indolent in shutting down their laptop specially at night before going to sleep, to change this type of behavior.

The creation of software to shutdown computers if unattended is may part of this research as an aid to forgetful people. This research can be applied not just by building software alone but in many ways. Like OS creators to patch their clients for this type of application and manufacturers of electronic machines not just laptop and personal computers but other electricity consuming machine like printers, scanners and computer monitors(monitors will stay power on even the computer unit is automatically shutdown by a program).

ok...having a software like this would be good.

Though it is already existing, it would be nice if your software will run on all kinds of computers, like what Ronic said.. naa na daw xa sa Neo, but then again sa Neo ra pud,..hahaha wala sa ako PC.

and one more thing, about the campaign thing that you mentioned, maybe its a little off the topic, it is not really needed since lots of campaigns are already into it, dili man jud maiwasan naa dili mosunod na tao so its better na magfocus ka s software para miskin gahi ug ulo pag biyaan niya iya computer mag shutdown daun..hahahaha
